Tis true - basically you are modifying the car to be something it wasn't meant to be and in the insurance industry eyes something more steal-able I suppose. I suppose if you went to a kit car specialist broker you might get it cheaper I only pay £290pa for my real 2010MY through LR Insurance........................ 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes |

I think it would depend on insurers, I'm sure they don;t have a tick box for 2010 upgrades when they quote, and that some insurers would quote ridiculous amounts to put off modified car owners.

That's what i find strange , upgrade a 06 say to 2010 mdl Back & Front lights , back and front bumper maximum cost say £4k and £5k extra insurance , Yet when i spoke to my insurance company about how much extra i would have to pay to add a £9k Overfinch bodykit i was told an extra £1200 ........... weird |

I just asked a mate about this in insurance. He said it had very little to do with nickability, it's all to do with driver/crash stats and probability of claim.
