I crawled underneath my 4.2 with my smartphone as it fit just in the space where the number is and took a decent picture .

You might have a small plate on the side of gearbox as on mine, near side near the air con drip pipe.

Serial numbers change with each gearbox...

Passenger side, directly in front of the large electrical plug, about three inches up from the sump and about four inches in front of where the Transfer box bolts on.... Pete
