why would EGR's be un-plugged?

Hi,

looking for a 3.6 TDv8 and seen one today but it has given me a few things to research Shocked

I have found most of my answers with the "Search" function
but still unsure why would both EGR valves be un-plugged Question lifted the engine cover and both multi-plugs have been disconnected, the pipe work still looks in place so dont think they have been blanked
(if you only blank and remove the pipe section you leave them connected ?)

they did not have emulators as, there disconnected anyway, does this indicate that they have had a software/patch/delete done
but if so why disconnect them Question

only other thing I can think is they have just disconnected them and done nothing else but would have expected an EML

Anyone suggest why the disconnect. Thanks. Thumbs Up

If the EGR`s are unplugged and there is no EML then the engine ecu presumably must have had them mapped out.
There are two ways to physically blank the EGRs, one involves removing a pipe and blocking each end, this is very obvious if you know what to look for. The other way is to slip a solid washer under the same pipe, this is not at all apparent without disassembly.
On my car I have the washers fitted, EGRs are still plugged in and no EML 2007 TDV8 VSE
2003 TD6 gone.
2002 P38a gone
1999 P38a gone
1997 p38a gone
1993 VSE gone
1992 VSE gone
1966 Series 2a with V8 conversion gone

I think the short answer is “to hide a fault” which would be enough to make me walk away wondering what else has been bodged

thats what I thought but dont understand Why they would unplug them, if mapped out there not working anyway Confused

There unplugged so you look deeper, many on here have blanked their EGRs or mapped them out but you dont need to unplug them then, if you just unplug them and nothing else you would get the EML.

This would not put me off if I understood why its just got me intrigued now as to why Laughing

there are other things that need sorting with the car so dont think it will work out anyway but would like to know whats the point of unplugging them

Yes, but only to those of us who know what we're looking for - most buyers wouldn't even know what an EGR was.

EGR faults don't generate an EML on the early TDv8s - just fault codes that eg an iiD will find & report.
I don't what year it changed over to creating an EML
What year was the car you were looking at ? Paul,

I wouldn't have thought so.
Mine is late 2006 & doesn't generate an EML for EGR faults.
I think it might be sometime after 2008 / 2009 when it changed, but I've no idea when.
