Hi Folks.
My 3.6 V8 is asking for an engine
oil change. As I have a warrenty on
the motor I am taking it in to get it
changed at a local Indy.
Out of interest is there a specific top
grade of oil I should insist on, as I am
planning on having this car a long time
and I want the best oil putting in.
Also I have been quoted £179 for a
Minor service. I thought it was ok, what
does anyone else pay?

don't know what your mileage is going to be like but if it was me id plan to do more regular oil changes say every 5k using a good oil, rather than 12 to 15k changes using a really expensive oil. Can you do the oil change bit say between dealer services , if not get someone to show you, its very rewarding doing this knowing that its done correct.

my unit next month and will do most
of the servicing/repairs myself with a mate who
also has a ff.
The reason for this oil change is that when
I bought the motor in October I bought a
12 month warrenty which needs a stamp.
I will bulk buy my oil if possible when I'm
set up but I wanted to specify the oil I
wanted putting in by the Indy on this occasion.
I have an 09 3.6V8 with 53.000 on the clock
The last service was at 47.500.

im planning on using a reasonable semi synthetic lube say every 5k miles , the expensive fully synth oils are better and are designed to last longer without braking down , however if you are a frequent oil changer then the extra life you are buying is just being thrown away. Ive had new kawasakis for 20 years and change oil every 2k miles , I have always just used a cheap semi oil in the bikes as anything else is just a waste for that service interval

the oil spec recommended is WSS MCC913 - b which is a ford spec.

the Basic shell oil which complies exactly with this spec is a semi synth Helix HX7 Professional AF 5w-30. which was on offer at car parts 4 less. But if you want to go fully synth, then Castrol Magnatec A1 5W-30 was the recommended oil when the cars were new, possibly a bit cheaper than the fully synth Shell Helix Professional AF 5w-30. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
