United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Java Black
TD6 to TDV8 Upgrade - Thoughts and initial impressions

I have just sold my 9 year old TD6 and replaced it with a 2011 TDV8 4.4. I thought I would put down some thoughts and first impressions for those who are thinking of making the jump.
My TD6 had served me well, and with 90k miles it was still fit as a fiddle. Very little had gone wrong, except for front suspension ball joints and drop links. The TD6 engine from BMW is a solid engine which Land Rover derated to 172 bhp for reasons best known to themselves. I had mine remapped to give an extra 15% bhp, but the engine was still raucous and noisy under stress in such a heavy car. I was seduced by what I had read about the TDV8 4.4 and 8 speed auto box combination, and besides I was itching for something newer.
The TDV8 I bought had just 30k miles and looked and drove like new. I expected performance to be good, but the reality blew me away. The engine is so quiet after the TD6 and the increase in grunt is amazing. At 70 mph the TDV8 is doing just 1400 rpm, whereas the TD6 was doing nearly twice that! I used to get 27 mpg from the TD6 on mixed driving, but the TDV8 has so far returned 31 mpg - all in all very impressive.
Also, the 2011 model shows how far the L322 has come over 8 years of development. The flight deck is still a nice place to be, but there are lots of detailed improvements. My Iphone now integrates properly with the AV system via bluetooth, and downloads all my contacts automatically. The electronic instruments look great. The Satnav now has the maps on the internal HDD, which means that updates have to be done through the Stealer. Incidentally, the satnav is still as useless and dumb as ever, and is just as bad at picking a sensible route.
So if you are teetering on the edge of a big decision, come on in, the water is lovely!

Nice Car!
Yes, I agree the 4.4V8 and 8 speed box makes for a great combination Very Happy
Refined, quick and about as economical as it is possible to be pushing over 2.5 tonnes through the the air with aerodynamics of a town hall Confused
My car came down from Aberdeen, yours has stayed north of the border!

I bought the car from a non-franchise dealer, and when I asked the L-R dealership who had supplied and serviced the car for a printout of the service history, they refused citing data protection, an offered only the dates at which routine servicing had been carried out (which I had anyway from the service book). I subsequently contacted the previous owner and discovered that there had been two warranty repairs: blown turbos (!), and an electrical fault which caused the suspension to freeze. I sincerely hope its teething troubles are behind it! 2011 Vogue TDV8 4.4

Mean no offence to the OP, as I absolutely love the 4.4 TDV8, and it's what I was going to get when I changed but decided to use my heart not my brain.

Lovely car. Enjoy it. Discovery 4 HSE
