Replacement reversing camera - help

I'm in the process of replacing my rear view camera on my 2006 tdv8 but I can't get a picture on the new camera. The camera is the same as another forum member purchased which was successfully installed. The problem may be because I've connected the wires incorrectly. Can anyone advise as to the correct connections please

I've tried to find the original post without success.

Hi Stan
There's no braiding on the yellow, perhaps I need connect one of the unused wires to the braiding on factory cable?

I can't understand why theres a 5th wire.

I agree that red is +12v, black is -ve, yellow and white are most likely inner & outer camera cable

Is there a microphone, or LED's in the unit ?

No instructions I'm afraid, going to try to connect the White wire as the outer video cable. Let you know how it goes later

Seems like you have one of these:

I've fitted one of those to my car, and i'm pretty happy with the result

My understanding of these when I fitted one to a friend’s pioneer av screen on a 350z is as follows:

As pre stans comments:

RED: IGN Hot +
BLACK: NEG –
YELLOW: Video Out / Video IN Feed to Head Unit (If connecting to a RCA jack, you may need to link the shield to Camera Black (earth
GREEN: Keep Disconnected\capped unless you want a solid white line on the screen (parking aid/guide).
WHITE: Depending on the camera it changes then origination of the lens (front or rear facing). If using for rear camera you may need to loop this to earth (black cable). or Positive (red)

If you can test on a 12v bench power supply, it may avoid any damage in testing. 2010 - Range Rover VSE 3.6 TDV8
2014 - Defender 90 XS
2014 - Suzuki Swift Sport
2017 - GBS Zero
2006 - BMW Z4M Coupe (gone)
2004 - Discovery Landmark TD5 Auto (gone)
2008 - Defender 90 SX (gone)
2011 - Touareg Altitude (gone)

Chopped off the cables, stripped them, and connected all together.

You have, under the tailgate upper trim, 2 connectors. One for the video and one for the power. The power is a white plug with the red and black wires and the video is a very small RCA type connector.

You can chop them before (leave enough cable) the connectors and then and hardwire them together.
That's what I did except for the video part. By my mistake, I chopped the video after the connector and ended up having to connect it without using the original connector. So for the power I'm using the original connector and for the video I had to hardwire them together.
