Inline Fuel Pump Failure - Third Time

Hello Guys & Gals.

My L322 TD6 RR inline fuel pump has just failed again for the third time within a 5 month period. Failed outside Terminal 2 at Dublin Airport. Driving from Sligo I notice that at high revs/ acceleration she was shunting/ jumping - I was afraid it could be the gearbox. However, when I got to the airport and was chatting with the passenger the engine suddenly died.

At this stage I had a good idea what the problem was. Removed the wee cover under the back door and the pump was making no noise. I tired tapping it a few times and checked the fuses to no avail. It was recovered back to Sligo. My only problem is understanding why it keeps failing?

Thus I have one question

What could be causing this?

Thanks

Where did you obtain the new pumps?

The pumps are Britpart - I know it has been commented by people that britpart is of very low quality. However, I cannot understand how a simple motor can only last such a short space of time.

However given the fault rate this must be the case. Anyone else have experience of failing inline fuel pumps?

Britpart Laughing

Wouldn't touch any of their stuff. Have fitted "new" track rod ends with more play than the old ones coming off Laughing

Stick with OEM or genuine pumps, and you will be fine Thumbs Up
And don't ever buy anything safety critical made by Britpart

Also affectionately known as Sh*tpart Laughing

It should be noted, that only BP's own brand stuff is poor. They do sell OEM parts, and well known brands, and these are all fine Thumbs Up

So there is your answer, spend the extra cash on a pump from Ducky-Dan and it will outlast the remaining like of the FFRR

I'm thinking that what I will have to do. The supplier is looking into it now. I believe he will replace it under warranty. I will either pay extra for the OEM one and or purchase one separate and keep the Britpart one as a spare.

However, to be fair lads. I've seen a lovely HSE Discovery 3 come up for sale and truth be told, I'm tempted. If not only for the Logic 7 Sound System.

Thoughts?

Confused

Dan's a good lad, but a genuine pump is still £60 more than an OEM pump...

Probably the same as it would cost if your genuine pump packed up Whistle

Just checked the prices. Genuine is £161 + VAT. OEM is £100 + VAT. Exactly the same pump, but minus the LR tax

I've said it before and I'll say it again...

OEM does not mean that the product, whether it be fuel pumps, brake pads, oil filters or any other car related product is made to OE standards. Each vehicle manufacturer specifies to the OEM what specification 'their products' have to be manufactured to. Take for instance brake pads, Mercedes use Pagid as one of their brake pad OE manufacturer, Pagid also sell brake pads to wholesalers who can then state that the said brake pads are made by the OEM for Mercedes. What they do not tell you is the 'recipe' for the brake pads are completely different to the OE brake pads and therefor although made by the OEM are completely different, hence the reason for an often massive reduction in price

You pays your money and take your chances, 120k miles from an original LR fuel pump sounds good to me...
