L322 - Westfalia detachable towbar from 2003 -fit my 2007MY?

Hi all,

A Westfalia detachable tow bar has come up for sale but was fitted to a 2003 L322. Will it fit my 2007 Vogue SE?

Cheers

Nick

Yes they work - I have just spent a week with a small Ivor Williams trailer hooked up to a 2003MY L322 drop plate hitch mounted to the 2003 Westphalia 2" attachment in a 2010MY 2" armature with no problems. The only difference is in the method of attaching the hook as I have both the 2003 and 2010 westphalia bike rack attachments and the newer version has a nut/bolt type securing whereas the old one has a pin with a second retaining spring pin to hold everything in place. 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

Depends if you are talking about the armature or the ball bit.

If you are talking about the armature - NO IT WILL NOT
There was a change for the TDV8's on the exhust mountings

If it is the bit with the tow ball on then yes Very Happy

Hi NickH72 - I have also been looking for the entire Tow Bar kit to fit to my TDV8 via eBay.

If the one you have your eye on is from an earlier car then it will not be suitable for your TDV8.

As nbunney has already mentioned, they are of different design because of the TDV8 exhaust system.

I have now come to the conclusion that if I ever do get round to fitting a towbar - I will buy a new kit from a Westfalia supplier - because for what they cost, fitted and brand new, eBayers are selling them secondhand for much the same price - especially those suitable for the later model Range Rovers!

I think the best price I have been quoted for a Westfalia / RRTDV8 Towbar / Twin Elec was about £430 fitted from Towequipe

I am not keen on the idea of 'messing about' with the RR electrics trying to fit a secondhand kit myself - remember they will need some kind of reprogramming to prevent Parking Sensors being triggered.

Not just that Delamo, the suspension also recognises that you have a trailer hooked on when you plug the electrics in and disables access height and also there is the little warning light trailer icon on the dash that checks the electrics are all OK which gets enabled - best left to the man with the enabling machine, either a dealer or if you have Autologic you can do it with that. Also if you have a 2010/2011 MY with LR Trailer Assist then that too may need to be enabled 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

Thumbs Up absolutely Tim...

I only wanted one to fix a decent bike rack to. Looking at what was available from eBayers I quickly went off the idea of fitting a secondhand kit myself - would definately cause the dreaded electrical gremlins to create havoc!

Any fitters in Surrey?

Can get one for £350 but they want another £300 to fit.. is it that complicated..??

Anyone able to fit one over my way? how long does it take?

Cheers all

Nick

probably 3/4 of a day to fit it properly incl electrics and testing it. The rear bumper has to come off and all the parking sensors detached etc. Really its a 2 man job to fit the armature - unless you enjoy struggeling and are clever with a large trolley jack...

Nick if you surf over to the Land Rover GTR (Global Technical Resources) website - there is a link from their main UK website you can download all the instructions for fitting all the accessories for free - you can see from them if you think you are up to doing the job yourself before committing to getting a dealer to do it, but I think you will still have to fork out £100 just to get them to hook your car up to their diagnostic system to enable the ECU for the trailer electrics (and loose the use of the car for a day!). Another person worth contacting in your part of the world is 10forcash over on the Disco3 forums - he's a self employed travelling engineer who services modern Land Rover at your house or office and also fits accessories. 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes
