Bit of lateral thinking in the garage

I needed to take the wheels off my Triumph Rocket to get the tyres changed.

Unlike my BMW it has no centre stand, and unlike my Honda it has shaft drive, so I couldn't use my regular bike stand.

Thought I was going to have to buy something like this: -

Then I thought, I already have a bike lift, I just didn't know it.

Next thing was I needed two different, but very large allen keys, which I didn't have.

Again, I remembered I had some nut splitters with a big bolt head at the end like these.

Just put half of the bolt head in, and get a spanner on the other half and the job has been done.

Well, half done. I have to put them back on when the tyres have been changed.

The old back tyre looked ok. Is it worn in the centre and not cornering as well? Or just old age? Previously..

It's below the minimum tread level in the centre. Bike has lots of torque (2.3 litres) and doesn't lean much before the pegs scrape, so it was always going to wear mostly in the centre.

They say a 240 tyre should last longer, but it's only done 5500 miles. I've switched from Metzler to Avon, so we'll see how they do.

Hey - and not old age! Bike's only 4 years old!

Winter and summer tyres? Not that I'd ride in the winter- fair weather biker which in this country meant it got used 3-4months out of 12. Hence why I no longer own a bike

Old age as in the rubber going hard after a few years. I loved fresh rubber and could feel the difference... Previously..

I though they have a life of 8 years?

I changed the tyres on my trailer last year even though they had plenty of tread, but they were 11 years old, which I thought was plenty long enough.
