Bought it privately. Frankly the chap did not know what he had. After my visit and deposit he continued to have loads of calls and at the time I would have valued it somewhat higher. I looked at/enquired about plenty of cars but this one ticked every box - even the satnav disc is brand new. I have since spent £200 on car detailing bits and she is in a better state of preparation than any dealer would do. Small details but when I picked her up, she still had 3/4 of a tank in her.
You will know when the right one comes along and the price is right. When I was researching dealers seemed to have a good £2500 to play with after car prep, costs, etc. They can throw in supaguard (if you value that!!) as it costs them £30 or so for the kit and a max of 2hrs to apply by someone not paid very much. I would say not to discount private cars from your search. Anything you buy will still be under warranty, insist on a Land rover inspection (£150 or so) in the deal and save a lot to put towards running costs.
Best of luck.
