Stuck Calliper - Advice

Recently went to fill up with petrol and noticed heat and smoke coming from the rear o/s wheel. Landrover Assist to the local dealer on a Saturday afternoon, so it wasn't looked at til Monday.

Dealer called and said BOTH rear callipers had seized. They said they were replacing 2 x callipers, 2 x discs, associated pipes and both sets of pads.

Further call from Dealer said they had spoken to LR Warranty and that they were now only replacing the 2 x callipers. On questioning...the Dealer said that the discs were fine and that the pads were 'as new' (having onbly been replaced in Jan.

Is this a bit suspect? I had been driving on the motorway for at least an hour and find it hard to believe that the pads are not worn to Censored ....

IMO, unless there was a compelling reason to replace all of those components, I would have just replaced the offending calliper. There is a school of thought that they should be changed in pairs, but not the whole shooting match. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Alan, if they have only been stuck for a short while then replacing callipers will suffice... I have also had experience of pads crumbling & discs cracking! Brake fluid loosing its viscosity through boiling! Through to wheel bearings being bone dry due to prolonged heat! Rolling Eyes Thumbs Up

Alan, for clarities sake, we usually change far more callipers than any other components. But, that said... Safety is obviously paramount sir Thumbs Up

I'd be interested to know about the smoking part. I'd have thought that would write the pads at least off. When mine stuck they replaced the lot *warranty didn't cover the discs/pads but after negotiation I got a free Inspection 1 and £100 back.

The pads they showed me were crumbly. (notice I say the pads they showed me, not necessarily MY pads Laughing Laughing

I have had my fair share of red caliber woes. For safety sake i would at least change the pads, because they cost buttons. discs should be ok i would think.

make sure that when refitting they clean out the pad guides properly as the pads can stick in the groove, which can cause them to bind against the disc slightly, 5 min job but important..... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
