Sorry to hear mate that that sort of crap has also landed in Oz. It reminds me of the news around the Cronulla riots. Must have been pretty scary. Problem with having guns, if the gun laws were like the US, it was more likely this lot would have had them as well and then you would not be reporting.

Hey Ziggy, good to know that you do have experience with guns in that case I won't need to worry too much . A good limited class IPSC gun would have served you well if things turned ugly but chances were that you would probably have ended up in jail because "those guys never really did anything or at least you can never prove it".

At over 800 bucks its more than a sat phone, but we'v been looking at getting a sat phone now for awhile

Have you considered taking a personal EPIRB ?? When you set it of, you will get SARS helicopters hovering overhead in no time.
