Which auto transmission oil?

Am going to attempt an oil and filter change on my 4.4 vogue petrol zf auto box.My question is when I am looking for oils on the internet it is a minefield and am sure I can find good savings on the right oil if I knew which ones are safe to use.Sure I can get the correct one from some landrover dealer that I will need a mortgage for but as I know I will have to change it at least twice what others and where can I get it?I put my reg in 'euro car parts' which listed 10 different lubricants but some reasonable prices and 'miller oils' looked good value but are they safe as am sure if I rang to check as salesmans advice is not what I am looking for.

Fisha is dead right, you shouldn't use anything else..

It used to be Esso LT71141 but it is now marketed as Mobil LT71141

There are lots of oils that claim to be compatible and the oil spec is correct but they don't have the right friction modifiers needed by the torque convertor... Pete

I got a 20l drum in the past cause doing it yourself, you only change half of the contents at a time, so I did twice separated by a few weeks. I got the 20l drum from here:

http://www.oil-store.co.uk/Mobil-ATF-LT-71...OWoWkIre-I

which is a lot cheaper than individual 1 litre bottles. V8 or else ...

Which transmission - 5 speed or 6 speed? I believe they take different fluids, so it's an important distinction.

For the 6 speed, it's officially LifeGuard 6/Shell 1375.4. Apparently Pentosin makes an equivalent. Rumor has it, if it is available to you, that Ford's Mercon SP is also LifeGuard 6, but there is no official verification of equivalency other than Ford's documentation that the 6HP26 transmission requires Mercon SP.

Ok I get that there is a risk in buying alternatives so the correct oil it will be then. Why is it they only sell it in either 1 litre tubs or 20 litres.I don't need 20 litres, where are the 5 litres or 10 litres tubs??
