The claim will be against the ships insurers and as such they will become the property of those insurers when they pay out, there is no benefit to them to scrap them but they certainly would benefit from selling them as seen. Could be some interesting negotiating going on. letters not necessarily in the right order

JLR will most likley have a control of salvage clause in their policy which allows them to dictate what happens to the salvage recovered goods (within reason) and they pay for this right in their premium. The claim will firstly be made on JLR's cargo insurance and if/when the claim is paid those insurers will claim against the ship but the ship's liability will probably be limited depending on the final destination of each car, could be as little as £500 per unit.

I have done several similar claims and it has depended on the % of parts changed if it can still be sold as a new car but anything that has been in water will likely be scrapped or possibly used for internal use but not put on the road. JLR probably wouldn't want too many "used"/repaired vehilces hitting the second hand market plus the problem of cars being shipped to different markets and warranty issues if not sold as new. There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t
