18 Months Completely Trouble-Free, And Then...

I'm waiting on a call from my LR garage. Confused

I know it won't be cheap as they said they're working out what needs done.

Long story short; the drivetrain has been feeling a trifle rough of late. There's a mild vibration from the rear, too. I've decided that it needs looking at, just to be sure.

I know they've identified worn bushes as part of the problem but something tells me this won't be cheap. They've told me to keep the loan car tonight.

A few months ago, this would probably have tipped me into buying a 5.0, but I've decided to buy a classic late 60's / early 70's muscle car instead, so really need this one in rude health for much longer than originally planned.

I must admit to feeling somewhat anxious... Si. <This is my name.

Mate, I hope that it won't be too bad and it is just rubbers (not that cheap either).

Have you have any issues with fuel or the gearbox ?? It could very well be an issue with the engine not always getting enough fuel that then results in symptoms that look/feel/sound like drivetrain related.

Oh and by the way, buy a 5.0 SC anyway that will scratch the muscle car itch as well. I don't think there are many muscle cars that have 500 bhp and have it available so "easily"Smile Smile MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Having experienced the 'anxious' wait syndrome many times with your car's lookalike Si, I can empathise with your angst!

Awaiting your update with things crossed and also with much interest too!

Thumbs Up

About 78,000 miles.

No word from the garage yet.

Hopefully know more tomorrow.

Eugene, your words worry me more now. Laughing

By the way, they've given me a new Volvo V40 estate to pootle about in. Seats are excellent, but it's gutless and feels far too low. Plus the constant diesel donk drone is massively tiring. Damn, I miss my V8!!!!!

And the muscle car thing is a 30 year-old itch. Prices are going up. I really think a decent Charger is out of the question now. Big Cry There's a gorgeous 455 HO Trans-Am in Germany but that's £30k these days. Just missed a gorgeous bullnose with a tuned 400 in the UK at £reasonable. Currently eyeing up a Mach 1. Si. <This is my name.

Just called the garage.

They're sure it's just the rear lower hub bushes that are worn and are replacing those.

They've added the caveat that until they've done the work and stripped things down, they MAY find other things, but they seem to feel this will cure the issues.

So, currently, the potential bill isn't looking too bad.

I get to keep the Volvo for another night, though, as the work won't be done until tomorrow . Odd driving a car where the fuel gauge doesn't appear to move. Si. <This is my name.

Yep, hope so. Thumbs Up

Sandy, until the work is done and I've completed the experience of this new (to me) garage and feel able to recommend them, their details may be of interest to you.

It's a LR-approved and dedicated garage called Conrico in Chertsey.

No showroom or sales centre. Just lots of new-model customer LR's and a nice, shiny reception area.

Very much like Guava in Guildford. Si. <This is my name.

Laughing

On another note, I've been emailing a vendor about a numbers-matching 1971 Mach 1 Mustang.

This is (or could be) the main reason why I need to keep my SC for a while longer. Si. <This is my name.

Hope its not too serious, sounds fairly minor (touch wood).

Glad to hear I'm not the only muscle car lover on here.

Got a 1972 Ford Falcon, stroked it from a 302 Cleveland, all the way to a 408.
