is dealership warranty worth it at 66k miles?

Just bought a 2010 SC with 66k miles, 1 owner, well maintained so far, etc. My biggest fear is maintenance costs with this car (my first real luxury vehicle). My mechanic strongly advised against me getting this car, says I'll pay at least $3,000 a year in maintenance costs (not sure if he was referencing the BMW or Jaguar version, i.e., constant engine vs electronics issues, but felt like he was justifiably bias). I have an option to buy the dealership's bumper to bumper warranty for 3 years/36k miles at $4500 (would add $70 to our monthly payment). This does not cover scheduled and other normal maintenance services and parts nor glass, lenses, sealed beams, light bulbs, etc. Is this warranty worth it at this point?

If it's an approved LR warranty, then IMO, yes.

At the end of the day it's an insurance policy - you could easily spend nothing outside of scheduled maintenance and the normal wear & tear items that warranties don't cover anyway - but if something big goes, it's going to cost you !

The people who write the warranties are in the business of making money - so on average the total claims must be less than the total premiums - but do you feel lucky ? Whistle

Spot on Alistair.

The 5.0SC is a big beasty (as they all are); and 4500 over 3 years could easily be eclipsed by one unlucky/ adverse episode. But then again...

Thumbs Up

Have a good read of it & make sure you know exactly whats covered & whats not.

Some exclude the entertainment system & things like that - clearly the more it excludes, the less it's worth.

Also be clear on who can do the servicing - in the UK it can be any registered garage, not sure in the US - if it has to be a main dealer, then take those costs into account, unless you had planned for them to service anyway.

I could do 36k in a year, so not really worth it for me to pay for warranty. My car is currently covered by LR warranty and starting to find that they don't pay for some things - giving me something to think about when its due for renewal! 2005 L322 Vogue Gold gone
