Noticed something peculiar today after a long drive that the large compartment under the armrest and the top fascia either side of the auto gearbox stick were very warm to the touch. Is this heat generated from the HVAC ducting or is it from the gearbox itself? Is this normal or something to be slightly worried about?

(if gearbox related, is there anyway to check the health of the gearbox as im not getting any dashboard messages nor from hawkeye diagnostics).

I think it only happens if the rear vents are open
