I was on an internal flight to Glasgow, as we approached, it was fogbound, you could not see the ground. we flew into the fog, and it slowly went quieter, just as we could see the runway lights, throttled up, and we aborted, went round, and tried again ten minutes later. THUMP! and again we could now see the lights. we were down. captain apologised for the thump and said the first approach would have been worse, as HE was trying to land it but couldn't see. second approach was fully autopilot.
