Expensive postage fee for eBay item?

I have recently purchased a 'Buy it now' wheel and tyre for a Range Rover, I am a little disappointed how much I've since been quoted for delivering it by the seller.

Whilst I accept the item was cheap I was not expecting to pay £40 for non urgent postage from Norfolk to South Bucks even though a specific postage fee wasn't mentioned.

This same week I only paid £7 to have a tyre only delivered from Leeds.

The seller stated that postage could be arranged upon request but I think he is trying it on IMHO Rolling Eyes

Anyone have any ideas what the approx postage would cost? - or - think I am being unreasonable not wanting to pay £40 for delivery?

Alternatively - Anyone after a 20" Genuine Range Rover alloy wheel (the BBS Split Rim style) which I won't need once I have removed the Continental tyre from it Question Whistle

Absolutely - he will be around later I'm sure though Thumbs Up

I only recently purchased/collected a full set of Genuine brand new 20" wheels from him for a bargain price Wink

... since then I have been scavenging eBay for some rubber to put on them - this would have been the last tyre I needed for the full set ... oh and then some new TPMS sensors are also required of course Neutral

Keeping on top of wheels and Censored tyres for this bloody car are the bain of my life!

Edit - thanks daveo and andyw for your suggestions - that wheelcourier.co.uk link looks & sounds perfect (will see if the seller is prepared to co-operate with me) Cheers all Thumbs Up

I will try and do a little report pictorial for this forum when I refit the wheels and tyres etc for everyones reference

@ nbunney - Thanks for your interest on the wheel, it is the same style as in the link below

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RANGE-ROVER-AUTOGRAP...3357ced849

As you are aware - I have not actually seen it yet, so I do not want to make any promises as to the condition of it but it has been described as unmarked.

(Apparently it was a spare wheel which had been removed and stored in the sellers garage because he converted his car to LPG) The car has since been sold.

If you are still interested - I will list it in For Sale & Wanted section & PM you first once I have checked it out (and have removed the tyre!) - I will also be offering a contribution to this site if it sells of course.

@ Tim in Scotland - No doubt you got a bargain!, FFND is the man! Thumbs Up

If you have bought this wheel and have to get it, find someone local to collect it for you and tell the seller that's what you'll do if postage cost is daft.

Where in Norfolk are we talking?

I bought a set of 4 wheels & tyres on ebay, postage £50, saying that as a private invididual it is sometimes difficult to send stuff as cheap as traders do as you cannot get access to same couriers.

As Martin says BigDave on D3 forum, I think he charges circa £20 for a wheel & tyre, organise your own courier to collect then you control the cost.

Regards

Paul

Sorry Chaps didn't log in last night as out.

delamo the wheel courier should be around £15

The weight of a 20" wheel without a tyre is approx 19Kg so add another 5 kg for tyre / air etc...

Make sure the seller properly wraps the wheel. This is a pain in the arse to do a good job but needs cardboard and/ or lots of bubble wrap. Call me / pm me if you need a courier etc....

The Disco 3 site has a courier network but i have never used it or know what it costs if anything?

That wheel you bought by the way is very rare. Check the outer chrome rim for damage and take it to a good garage to have tyre removed. The rings damage easily and cost a fortune to replace.

Thumbs Up
