Surging idle

I have noticed that my 4.2sc is surging whilst idling. It is a repeated rhythmic surge of approx a few hundred rpm. Whilst not alarming, it did not do this until recently and has coincided with the car cutting out after starting it up cold. Any thoughts? 2014 5.0 Supercharged Autobiography & 2015 3.0SDV6 HSE Lux Discovery 4

Usually a leak into the inlet manifold, car measures air going in and adjusts fuel accordingly, leak lets in too much air and effects the tickover..... check all hoses including the vacuum ones... Pete

Mine did that as well before we changed the fuel pump and cleaned the inlet tract. Could indeed be false air as well. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Makes sense. I will do the necessary checks. Dreading fiddly vacuum hoses!

Many thanks. 2014 5.0 Supercharged Autobiography & 2015 3.0SDV6 HSE Lux Discovery 4

I gave the MAF sensor a good wash with the special MAF sensor cleaner spray. No immediate change, but next day she fired up just like she used to and U.S. Idling smoother.

Very simple procedure and good result.
