We are in the process of selling my wives car, the car has a private plate on it.

We as of yet have not found a suitable replacement car, so we need to put the plate on retention

I believe we need to use the V778/1 document for doing that.

The question I have, can this be done online, or do I either have to go to the DVLA or send the documents by post

Best to get it done ASAP, so you've got both the retention certificate and the V5 in the original number before you sell it.

Told the people will take about 10 days, they were ok with it, got a deposit.


Paperwork is in the mail
