Bad news guys............... no apple shop will sell you an out of contract phone. They have to be bought with a SIM from one of the big boys......... I tried this on a few weeks ago. Gits  Currently running FFRR MY10 TDV8 3.6L and a Disco 3 XS Commercial (tank like but very effective as a Company van). Plus one mint condition Track Day Car in the form of an E36 M3 3.2L Evolution circa June 1996 with lots of go faster bits and only 52k miles on the clock! Oh, plus a few bits to make it slow down really quickly as well! Luvverly.

Yeah had to get one on a Vodafone contract .........

I purchased mine from the Apple Store Cribbs Causeway (Bristol) about a month ago completely sim free. They didn't even supply me with a sim for my network. All iPhone 4's purchased directly from Apple are sim free and as such will work with any compatible network. Also they advertise these phones as sim free and charge you the full price (£499/£599) rather than a subsidised price that you would get with a network deal.
