What recent vehicle best replaces the Range Rover Classic?

If the original Range Rover was on sale today I would probably buy one for its combination of price, rugged construction, and 'go anywhere' with comfort. Since; as far as I can see, LR have vacated the space, what best fits the bill?

Im not sure that there is much available new that's both rugged and luxury.

Poss a new Defender, but not as luxuriious obviously though. Just thinking that the classic is rugged, good off road, seperate chassis etc....

My cousin has a Mitsi L200 from new in 2009. He loves it. Not comparable to current RR or even older ones, but is bearable and rugged......

So I wonder if any of the current crew cab 4x4s would be comparable.

I can't think of anything that meets the luxury or class of it currently though. Not new anyway.

Can you still get a new Merc g wagon ?

I'm thinking along the same lines as the above posts ... except for the 405. I think it fails on price and also I would really struggle to throw anything remotely messy in the back.
