Front Wiper Operation

OK, I'm willing to take some stick for not understanding them properly. I've had a number of cars and the front wipers made sense, Generally, push down once for a wipe, push up for a delayed wipe, up again faster and up again turbo - or something like that.

I've not had my range rover long and have been trying to work them out.

Push down for a quick wipe, I understand that but when it's raining and I push up for permanent wipe, there is no delay it just seems to wipe and not matter what I do with the sliding switch on the same stalk it makes no difference to the speed. So what I find is, when the rain is stopping, it continues wiping at a fast speed and I have to manually stop it.

Am I missing something here?

You are in the same situation as me. Does yours have auto wipers, if so the first setting should activate these?

I have found out this morning that whoever fitted the new windscreen did a bad job with the sensor, so they are going to remove it and reattach it next week.

down for one wipe,

up for auto with adjustable delay/sensitivity,

up again for slow constant ,

up again for fast constant... ... - .- -.

ah ok good to know. It might be working as the speeds do vary but do not seem to update when the rain slows all that quickly.

Next time it pouring, I'll experiment with the first up (auto) position and adjust the sensitivity control. I don't think a new windscreen has been fitted, don't know how to tell. It has Land Rover etching on it. I guess if it is a sensor problem, I won't bother changing the screen until I get a chip that warrants it. I have not cleaned it since I got it Smile so will have a look at any muck that may be stuck in front.

Is the sensor near the centre rear view mirror then?

Not the best picture but here is my mirror, looks like I have the sensor ...

When it rains, the wipers certainly wipe constant on auto, I have no delay problems, but I was expecting it to slow as the rain slows but I guess it's not that accurate.

Well it appears they do work. Left work, not raining, put wiper arm in 1st position, no wiper action. Started to rain 10 minutes into the journey home and the wipers kicked in Whistle
