Evening all.

Finally got mine into the detailers this week and I was stunned at the state of the paintwork under his lighting. OK, in daylight, not that noticeable but still, not what you would expect on a new car. His view was that this type of damage is done by the dealer when they are doing the PDI but I don't know what level of cleaning and polishing is done as the car comes off the line so it might be at the factory.

The Detailer's view is also that in his experience, Barossa and Barollo are 'softer' than others and more prone to damage - I wouldn't change the colour though!

Anyway, some pictures of work in progress and I'll post some of the finished article when I get it back tomorrow. All this said, I am absolutely loving it and glad I've had it fettled

I have used Jay several times and his work is amazing. My car is Barollo and needs to go back to Jay after 10 months and 11k miles. It's covered in fine scratches.

I have a customer with a Loris Blue one and it actually has bits of debrit in the paint! Even after PDI!!!

Interestingly it has a silver roof & gills... Interestingly LR have just paid for the front grille surround & wiper panel (on top of the bonnet) to be painted the same "Atlas Silver" so it all matches... Couldn't believe the plastics on a 2014 RR would still be a Brunel Grey colour!

Finished!! I'm a very happy punter...

The swirl marks on the 'before' detailing photo are disgraceful. The dealer should be billed. They probably used an old sponge and then a squeegee thing to wipe it clean. If you are paying 100k for a car the paintwork should be perfect. No excuses. Travelling around in circles again.

It's a sad fact that a lot of the blues which LR use are very soft paints. There was also a BMW black a few years ago which couldn't even take a microfibre cloth removing wax without marring.

Now, try the boggo Merc silver. Harder than granite, especially those with ceramic based clear coats. My record on an E class was 3 days of machining to get the damn swirls out

Mine (Mariana black) was in a similar state when I took delivery. One of the worst prepared cars I have ever had. However once done properly the paintwork is of high quality. Noticeably better than the L322.

Just come back from an evening with friends through the snow and usual winter rubbish and I am stunned at how clean it still is - water just beads off it and seems to take the dirt with it. Used to have a secret like for the mud 'honour stripes' on my disco but equally liking the seemingly self cleaning properties of the finish the detailer has put on.

I'd honestly recommend that anyone buying a reasonably pricy motor get their local detailer to work their magic - well worth the money.

Had - 2007 S/C in Stornoway Grey

I think price depends on how far do you want to go, I suspect £600-£700 for several days work if the interior was cleaned.

Indeed - 700 quid with interior treatment, polish and exterior coating. Took 21 hours in total but that did include sorting a wheel refurb - it's on winter boots - the wheels were sourced from eBay and one was a bit worse for wear...
