To remove or not remove

Talking to a friend last night who's blanked his EGR valve on his Jag 2.7 XJ

The question is, should I blank mine on my TD6, also he seems to think I'll need two kits if I do.

I have searched on here and quite a few have, does it really improve things or not ??

The old lump has clocked up 120k could I be encouraging trouble.

Thanks Three things in a blokes life his dog,his car and a Cornish pasty, nothing else matters.

If you do blank the EGR, and I would recommend you do, can I suggest you keep the removed EGR valve, clean it up and put it in a box for possible future re-use. I have a suspicion that the MOT in the near future may require an EGR valve to be fitted if the vehicle originally had one, in a similar manner to catalytic convertors are treated now.

I have a high mileage 2004 TD6 and blanked mine off Friday just gone.
Only need one unit. Payed £28ish off Ebay. As Stan says there's a wiki on it and is real easy (20 mins to do). A screwdriver and 1 allenkey

My FF was already chipped, but this made a big difference performance wise when pulling away. Haven't noticed fuel economy yet mainly due to pulling away like an idiot while the novelty is still there! Wink

I didn't fit it for performance, I fitted it for the MPG gains reported.
Next for me is to fit a Green Cotton air filter.

Cheers

It would require removing parts to identify that it had been removed which isn't within the ambit of the MOT.

However, it is a good idea to retain the EGR as it may be that testing for NOX will become part of the MOT as it is the current "bogey man" for environmental issues.

I removed the EGR from my D2 and the next CT (MOT equivalent) showed lower tested emissions than with it. Smile

Have removed it from the FF but it came with a CT so haven't yet compared. John

If you want to give it a try, just pull the vacuum pipe off and plug it with a small bolt or similar, then tuck the pipe out the way, give a go for a week or so and see then weather you want to go ahead with the conversion. I'll bet you'll want to do it after. Thumbs Up
