Oil/fluids choice and problems

Was just thinking about the increasing costs of oils and fluids....and whether problems with turbos and gearboxes etc., are to some extent caused by use of cheap fluids rather than the ones specified.

Say I put some cheap Halfords spec oil into my 4.4. Am I going to notice problems immediately? Say the independent someone uses cuts corners and uses cheap oil...who is ever going to know ? Not saying they would of course...but what if ?

England 2014 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Loire Blue

"Cheap" oil would be the wrong grade and would damage the engine to some degree...

Most garages are very good at using the correct oil, in fact the latest long life fully synthetic I use in mine is cheaper than the lower grade oils due to supply and demand, I get mine trade, less than £20 for 5ltrs branded fully synthetic, in fact I did daughters Yaris a few weeks back and fully synthetic was cheaper than semi...

Lots of folk like to use the most expensive oil that is advertised, nothing wrong with that for peace of mind but in reality it is no better than cheaper stuff made to the same specifications.... Thumbs Up Pete
