While on the subject of diffs. What is it I need for the drain/fill bolts is it the same as the td6 (14mm inverted hex socket) 2006 4.4 ajv8 with non locking rear diff ? I've had a look and think it is but just want to know for sure as il need to order one.

Also looks like its going to be tricky getting access and some purchase on the fill bolt especially as the car will be on stands not ramp. Range Rover Vogue 2006 4.4 AJV8 | Buckingham Blue | Parchment Leather | Supercharged Grill+Side Vents | CA02 HEY ( NOT 02 PLATE )

Hi markcaughey

I have been using the attached Pump, Fluid Transfer system on all my range rovers and discovery's for a few year now. Its the best way to get the fluid in -and really easy.

REMEMBER - ALWAYS UNDO THE FILL CAP FIRST - leave the drain fill cap last - that way if the infill is ceased, you will not have lost all the fluid and no way of filling it back up.

I have always put in the correct amount per application / diff and the pump pictured pushing in the whole amount without and loss

Hope this helps

Snap on part ( Pump, Fluid Transfer - FLUIDPUMP £19.90 excl. VAT) £23.88 (incl. VAT)

thanks Emirates777- Done the diff in my old car and i have a long syringe with a 10" tube at the end so was planning filling a paint mix cup with the exact amount then using the syringe to extract from the pot and inject into the diff.

it was more access to get purchase on the bolts I'm concerned about and also what size drain bolt key i will need for the job. I was originally planning putting it in to get the diff oils changes and me providing the oil, however I'm struggling to trust anyone to put the exact amount in.

When i phoned up land rover glasgow to enquire about them doing the job they did not instil any confidence as when i asked about the diff oils the answer was "yeah they all use the same diff oil and all take the same amount" this was ever before i gave them any details on the car all they knew was that it was a range rover ! They then took the registration and said yeah as we said its a universal diff oil that we use in all models and that they all take the same amount. So its certainly not going into the main dealer, also when i was trying to explain it was the ajv8 I said its the jaguar 4.4 v8 not the bmw v8 they replied with " what ? range rovers have land rover engines sir" Big Cry I would like to think that this was just an incompetent member of staff and that the guys in the work shop know what they are doing. Range Rover Vogue 2006 4.4 AJV8 | Buckingham Blue | Parchment Leather | Supercharged Grill+Side Vents | CA02 HEY ( NOT 02 PLATE )

Hi Mark

Its very easy to do - just remember to undo the filler on both the rear & front Diff's first - do not undo the drain plug till last - Remember if all the oil comes out and you cant get to fill it up - your Censored

Attached is pic of oil you must use for both rear & front Diffs ( DO NOT USE IF YOU HAVE A SPECIAL ELECTRONIC REAR LOCKING DIFF - as this uses a very special special Oil ) If in doubt check with your dealer on the rear diff

A good way I do our Diff Oils:
I purchased 2 large railway sleepers ( in great condition ) and I drive the cars on these. That way the vehicles is flat and level. Never as you may know get under the car on its own. The air suspension can lower at any time. Its advisable to always keep the drivers door open - theirs a circuit that prevents the car from lowering, whilst the drivers door is open, WITHOUT the engine running & NO KEYS. Air suspension is set to highest & locked. But always use axle stands in 2 places to support the chassis each side near to where you are working - as a safety measure.
Time it takes to do each Diff oil change is about 30 mins - and I tend to change the oils every 20K - its that easy.

Thumbs Up

Thanks mate. I'm still unsure if I have locking rear diff or not I did try to check that with the dealer as well but as said above they were pretty useless. Iv had a look under and from what I can tell I think it's a non locking diff. But want to be 100%before doing the job.

Not the best of photos but can anyone tell from this if it's locking diff or not ?

Also what drain plug key do I need ?

If you are really nice to Dan at Duckworth, he will print your buildsheet which should show whether you have a locking rear diff (mine does, I checked).

As for the fluids, that should be in the manual and if not again Dan may be able to help (and supply whatever you need Wink ). MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
