@pld118 - Not the bath and shower stuff, but the automotive silicone sealant that they use to bond in windscreens, etc. You can get a small tube of the black sealant from most automotive stores for only a couple of quid. It's very useful stuff to have as it can be used in many different applications.
The handle covers normally just have two thin double sided self adhesive strips inside, so you would be expected to peel back the paper and stick them in place. However, according to the vids and other peoples experience, it's recommended to add some silicone sealant in between the strips and around the edges, as this creates a stronger bond and helps to stop dirt and water from getting underneath the covers.

They need a little help to keep them in place, I used some polyurethane flex adhesive. One because it's what they stick commercial lorry bodies together with, and two, because I had an open tube to hand Mr. Green
As far as silicone goes I personally wouldn't use sealer, I'd go for the solvent free No Nails silicone, hasn't got as much colouring (talc) in it and therefore is stronger. Thumbs Up
I just put a thin bead in between the adhesive strips, you don't want it oozing out all over the door Wink Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

My Powerful covers just stuck right out of the box.

No additional stickiness of any sort was required. Cleaned the handles with alcohol wipes beforehand, applied covers, pressed and held for 30 seconds and that was it. Si. <This is my name.

Ryan.... Razz

I remember Mick (Joker) once saying that the 3M pads holding his on were so strong that he had to piecemeal break off the cover to get to the hidden driver's door lock keyhole. Mine feel the same, even after nearly two years. Si. <This is my name.

Si Mr. Green

I'd prefer the sticky pad tape route tbh, providing they can be heat treated back off if required.

Have I read on the adverts that you can opt for covers that do leave the keyhole accessible although many seem to buy the no holes handles "cos they look like those off a newer model"?

Thumbs Up

Yes. My set came with a keyhole opening cover and a full cover and left it up to me to decide which to fit.

I opted for the full cover as I figured the unused keyhole would only gum up with dirt more and the covered keyhole could possibly be more secure against any opportunist scumbags. But the main reason was looks. I keep the unused 'holed' one in the glovebox. Si. <This is my name.

^^ "Sikaflex" is polyurethane flex adhesive! Only that's the brand name, rather than the product, like Hoover and vacuum cleaner Thumbs Up And it will stick to just about anything, they even use it for bonding cars together, like sticking the chassis to the body on a Vauxhall VX 220, I'm pritty certain that's what they use to bond in windscreens Smile
If you buy poly' flex adhesive, you'll find it's a lot cheaper than Sika Wink But solvent free no nails will do the job, and it's easier to get a hold of. Having said that if you have any loose trim then a tube of poly' flex is a good buy, but I'd recommend that you get some white spirits as well, cos it gets everywhere Shocked I think that acetone is the correct solvent for this stuff, but that will have your paint off if your not careful, white spirit is the best readily available solvent that I've found that works.

As promised some pictures of Stainless Steel door handle covers

These were taken after a technical fault, the computer deleted them Censored , but they are later in the day so the flash has been used

And lastly I held a bit of light against the handle to show the difference between chrome and stainless, the stainless is a bit duller and slightly yellower

To me the stainless is a bit less sparkly in the sunshine, and just finishes the car off nicely, if it's good enough for Rolls Royce and Bentley, it's good enough for my Range Rover

I suppose that the only difference than you'll be likely to notice is the ABS chrome handles are more likely to be warmer to the touch Very Happy I'd also only use a damp cloth to clean them, as I can't for one moment imagine they will have any more than a few microns of shiny stuff on them. That is the real advantage to solid Stainless Steel handles, you can buff the blemishes out! Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Do many people who put colour coded door handles on, also put Powerful's colour coded mirror covers on and do they also colour code the tailgate strip, side vents and bonnet scuttle?

I personally can't see the point in putting on handle covers that are painted, especially if your contemplating colour coding the bonnet scuttle, if your going to do that then you might as well save £50 and paint the handles too Razz
Plus I have a hard time with why would you improve the car with the same thing, all be it a different colour, that has already failed? Paint can ware off, and will, just look at your handles Shocked At least mine will look the same in 10 years time Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

I been thinking of fitting these covers on mine for a while now, but not sure which way to go, titanium is preferable ( I think) or body colour Confused ....and yes my bonnet scuttle is colour coded with titanium grill section and all lettering is titanium Mr. Green If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!
