Turning off DRLs?

When bouncing around a field or moor, many miles from a road, I feel a bit of a numpty with the DRLs on. Is there a way of temporarily disabling them?

On the L322, it's an option in the computer memory. I'd be very surprised if it isn't the same in the new ones. HOWEVER, getting a dealer to turn it off for you might be another story.

Here in Canada there are a few GM models made for the USA that cannot be imported because they have user off switches for the daytime running lights.

They are required by law in the UK and cannot be disabled.

^^ mores the pity; can take pity in your plight EmperorMong as the L405 AB that turned up shooting on the weekend certainly looked a bit too 'vodka bar' with the DRLs on... perhaps its tactical phessie dazzling Wink

I'm sure any decent auto electrician or electronics specialist can rig up a decent decent on off switch arrangement. Whether it is completely legal I don't know but I'm sure if you only use the off setting while of the public roads, there is little the police can (and will) do I expect.

Would be nice if you could switch it off already but it doesn't sound like it. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

All of this stuff is switched by an ecu, it can be switched on and off but there is no access rout, you can reprogram your phone, your laptop, the colour of the internal bloody led things but not a £100k car.
Why cant they have an interface that alowes you to change anything that some specky spotty techy thinks is the way you would or should want it. If it has a warning to say this may contravene the road law and a reset to factory button, not beyond the wit of man and relatively cheep. letters not necessarily in the right order

Dixy, I do agree with what you are saying and unfortunately that is increasingly difficult in this day and age with liability laws basically allowing for a company to be bankrupted if they get it wrong. Ultimately the part of the "general public" with an appetite to go after (big) companies when they pour hot coffee over themselves or something along those lines has been the cause of our lives increasingly unpleasant.

It is sad to see how every good thing finds a fair amount of abuse that makes the good thing less good and more restrictive and so on. It is good that any company is held liable for bringing dangerous products onto the market but of course there are people that will find the "loopholes" that then get exploited by scrupulous lawyers only out to line their own pockets.

So while I do agree that the freedom should be there to modify a lot more in our cars programs, I do understand the people responsible for protecting their companies against liability risks not allowing it.

At least if you go the hardware route, the manufacturer can't be held liable (well in a normal country, not the US of A I'm afraid) for you getting a ticket or in case the car is involved in an accident for much larger damages claims.

It is annoying though, I'd prefer to have access via the vehicle touch screen and not need a Faultmate to do a lot of stuff but that is the way it is. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Wouldn't surprise me if it will be an option with updates to the IID...

Ours will already allow us to do some basic stuff to L405. But CCF files are not available YET... Thumbs Up

There are headlamps which don't have the full sparkly signature LED pattern - from memory the signature lighting was an option on the first UK Vogues, as it still is on the low-spec ones elsewhere.

I think those very early Vogues had another form of DRL - maybe the single spot a la low spec Evoques?
