So I gave the old girl a service today, changed the oil, fuel, air and pollen filters some nice new fully synthetic oil , and cost under £100 all in for everything. Not bad at all. Took me just over an hour also and didn't even need to jack it up being so high underneath I was surprised at what a doddle it was and such an easy car to service yourself. Shame not all jobs on them are so simple. Removed the egr valve whilst the covers were off and put a pottle of Wynns fuel cleaner in the tank. Mpg has improved without a doubt on my run out this afternoon which is a regular that I do.

With all due respect Jaiscossie, sounds like you have used some very cheap parts on that service sir... Message to all... Please be aware that when it comes to certain servicing parts, please give careful consideration to their quality!

Engine oil... Feeds through your turbo and obviously lubricates your engine internals.
Filters... Do exactly what their name suggests! BUT, please be aware... Quality can dramatically decline the less money you spend! Im all for forum members trying to do DIY or save themselves some shilling Until you see a cheapy engine oil filter thats collapsed and starved an engine of oil! You may NOT appreciate how parts differ in quality... So, please give these types of parts some careful consideration before purchasing Sometimes its worth spending just a little more on critical parts/oils etc

In fact, a full OEM service kit can be had for £50. Even allowing another (generous) £50 for oil, a DIY service can be done for less than £100, using genuine quality parts

I don't know why you assume that Craig, all the filters were Bearmach brand which are good quality items and the oil is Fuchs 5w40 fully synthetic the same brand oil as I put in my 500hp cosworth. So nothing wrong with the quality of parts just saved myself the £300+ a dealer would charge for an hours work. Plus I know doing it myself it's been done properly

Mikey, you state an OEM filter can be purchased for £4... A cheap Chinese made POS filter can also be purchased for £4 or less!

My point is cheap does not always mean a fit for purpose part and some members may not be aware of this...

I know what a genuine LR TD6 service kit costs Jaiscossie thats why i wanted to make the point to other forum members who may not be aware there are some really bad servicing parts available out there offered as "a cheap alternative to OE"

Did i say anything had to be expensive? No... BUT i DID say for people to be aware of cheaper alternatives! A little harder to ask an ebay seller for a warranty claim when your engine has been starved of oil due to a nasty cheap parts failing then it is to get one of the mainstream distributors to take responsibility...

But there not 'nasty cheap parts' are they Craig.. It's a bit like me saying 'that 2010 conversion is a cheap price' you must use nasty fibreglass crap bumpers etc and only genuine parts are worthwhile which I'm sure you only use genuine land rover oe parts on all your conversions don't you?

We only use Genuine JLR parts sir... BUT!!! Some converters DONT! You can buy most of the parts to convert a FF to 2010 from China now sir... Would i buy them NO! SIMPLE!!! And thats my point... Someone will be tempted by their cheaper advertised price!

The same happens with servicing parts!

I DID NOT say you fitted "crap parts" but i would be concerned about the quality of a fuel, oil, air & pollen filter for less than £50!

A Bosch air filter NON OE part lists for £41 + VAT on its own!
