Hydraulic brakes are available on UK trailers, they are not an American invention! Unlike the electric bakes, nice idea but totally banned over here, something to do with if your lights short out you've got no lights and no brakes Shocked

If you've gone to all the bother of fitting a ratchet handbrake, why haven't you fitted a breakaway cable to the bottom? Just because one VOSA chap let you go, the next might be a jobs worth and give you a fine. Because Vosa wont produce any plain english rulings on matters relating to trailers, Tacho's, etc, it's all down to the individual officer and his interpretation of the law. Vosa and the Police have some very conflicting ideas as to what is legal. Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

I don't want to point out the obvious way around your height issues, but...........

Whistle has anyone tried putting the Flange receiver hitch in upside down? And turning the ball the other way around, would give you a load of holes going up, not down Thumbs Up

I've been towing with a Dixon Bate combi hitch up side down, when towing a trailer with an eye, for donkeys years, to gain height. and as my FFRR has the receiver hitch and I've got a small ladder hitch, bolted to that, I have to option of multiple heights up or down Very Happy

If you turn the flange upside down it catches the bumper and the lowest holes are then too high Big Cry I tried it.

I did consider using a Dixon bate slider but they rattle and bang something terrible the one on my dads disco was very noisy, also I kept cracking my shins on it hateful painful bruises.
The hitch is at the engineers 4 more sets of holes going to be drilled and the botton 3 inches cut off, pikkys when I get it back and fit it ok. If everything is under control you are not going fast enough.

Dam those designers at Land Rover, if only the tight wads had made the hitch an inch longer! I wasn't too sure if that would work but was worth a try! That height adjuster hitch is not a Dixon Bate, it is nearer to a Writter, as such it uses 2 pins instead of the 1, like I have , and does indeed rattle! Anyway I'm glade mine makes a little noise, that way I only poop myself if it all goes quiet, and I start checking the rear view mirror Laughing
And if you knew that the Dixon Bate ladder was on the back of your fathers Disco, why did to keep on walking in to it? once is enough for me Very Happy
Plus it's going on a FFRR, take the whole thing off when not in use, then if you walk in to it, you haven't seen the trailer either, and deserve the pain to wake you up! and before you go in to one, I have the scars to prove I was half asleep. Something about that tow ball shin connection that proper smarts. If everything is under control you are not going fast enough.
