dont think the battery is on its way out , i had this problem about 3 times when i first got the car and on each occassion it was cleared via LR plugging in the laptop as it was by-passing one of the brains in the car , and have not had aproblem in 3 year since .

HDC stands for Hill Descent Control and sometimes these types of error message come up. They don't always mean something is wrong, just a sensor tripped which then shuts something off.

i tend to find this theary can be applied to most messages onto no6 Range Rover

Yeah when you have two 21AE V2500 engines each giving 26,500lb of thrust trying to lift something that weighs over 92,000lb its a good sign you know CTRL ALT DELETE................. |

The HDC message could possible be down to one of the front cables for the ABS sensors. These can rub against the inner side wall of the front tyres to the point the metal cores are exposed or even cut right through.

It was definitely battery related. Once the battery was replaced a few months ago, the message stopped appearing, as did one or two other little electrical jitters.
