Occasional "HDC Inactive" Message

Hi,

New to FFRR but occasionally I get the "HDC Inactive" message with a chime if the car has been left for a day or two. It clears immediately. Having done a bit of research, it may indicate the battery is on the way out. Does this sound about right?

dont think the battery is on its way out , i had this problem about 3 times when i first got the car and on each occassion it was cleared via LR plugging in the laptop as it was by-passing one of the brains in the car , and have not had aproblem in 3 year since .

HDC stands for Hill Descent Control and sometimes these types of error message come up. They don't always mean something is wrong, just a sensor tripped which then shuts something off.

I've had this, and it goes way after a reset (turn on and off again)

Nothing to worry about unless you were off-roading and using HDC at the time! Discovery 4 HSE

Yeah when you have two 21AE V2500 engines each giving 26,500lb of thrust trying to lift something that weighs over 92,000lb its a good sign you know CTRL ALT DELETE................. Bow down Thumbs Up

The HDC message could possible be down to one of the front cables for the ABS sensors. These can rub against the inner side wall of the front tyres to the point the metal cores are exposed or even cut right through.

Once the cable is broken, the ECU gets no signal from the sensor and so cant sense the wheel turning, and it effectively looks like the wheel is stationary, which for HDC control would cause all sorts of problems .... so it disables HDC.

The car knows there is a problem as all 3 other wheels will be turning.

I'm about to take the cable off and repair it using a semi-bodge method of repair, which hopefully should sort the issue out. If i can, i'll post pictures. V8 or else ...

It was definitely battery related. Once the battery was replaced a few months ago, the message stopped appearing, as did one or two other little electrical jitters.

I've just driven the car today after it had been parked up for nearly three weeks and what happened on start-up? "HDC Inactive". A drive to give the battery a boost has solved the problem.
