Fuel Economy

2005 RR TD6. 139000miles.

Hi guys after having replaced the alternator on the car last week we have just returned home after a weekend in York. Return trip from North Ayrshire to York City Center roughly 500 miles give or take a few. I averaged 27.7 miles per gallon. I was keeping up with the flow of traffic 70mph on motorway etc so I don't think I did to bad. What do you think for an old engine ?

I have a petrol (which I love).
I couldn't get that parked on the back of a flatbed lorry. Mr. Green

Not bad mpg for a 3tonne 4x4 Thumbs Up

Here's mine...

MY2005 TD6, 201,900 miles. Daily round trip of 110 miles, average mpg 28.5 (I always measure tank to tank, zeroeing the trip counter, as I fill up every week putting in on average 89-95 litres of the devil's brew and a little bit of injector cleaner/fuel additive).
Trip counter always reads 26.1mpg (Average 1 and Average 2) regardless of how I drive it.

Morning Discotigger

A quick question. I have only owned this beast for 3 months. It had been lying unused on a farm for months. Brakes/discs badly worn and seized.I replaced discs/pads/rear nearside caliper. Serviced engine and new crankcase breather unit. Had to replace top radiator hose and new alternator last week. Although this was my first longish trip in car it has been gradually loosening up after lying for so long. I have 2 questions. My engine is quiet on tickover but quite noisey on acceleration. Is that normal for this type of engine. I also have a rumble at low speed over uneven roads. Can you advise if you have had similar problems. Thanks

Hi Jinx1959

I have the same car and it also roars a bit on acceleration - not as bad as the P38 though !!

Your mpg is pretty much what I get on a run. Brimmed figure is always lower than trip computer but others have a different experience.

TD6 is noisy.

If you mean the suspension rumbles, it shouldn't.

Hi jinx1959, Yep the TD6 is a bit tractor like under acceleration, I find sometimes it's quiet other times it sounds loud, so quite normal for us 'tratter boys'. Thumbs Up

The rumble could be from the suspension/steering components, i.e worn or perished bushes on the suspension arms or track control arms. Bear in mind as well that some road vibrations can be caused by the wheels/tyres you're using, especially the size of wheel (18, 19, 20 or 22" wheels affect the ride considerably on some FFs) or the age/strength of the sidewalls in the tyres you've got on.

Hope you enjoy your Full Fat ownership though, they're addictive beasties!! Thumbs Up

My FF is used mostly for travelling from Glasgow through Glencoe to visit my daughter & granddaughter near Spean Bridge so no luxury of motorway driving in top gear. I always achieve at least 32mpg in these conditions often nearer 34-35mpg.

Keep the cruise control off and use the throttle for better fuel consumption Thumbs Up

Three years ago we toured Europe covering nearly three thousand miles in an '06 Td6.
With the A/C on the entire journey it achieved over 30mpg and was perfect.
Enjoy !

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?
