Not necessarily Range Rover related, but just had an email at work from a british guy who has his UK registered car over here in Paris. His car is due for an MOT and he is asking if it is possible to get his car MOT'd over in France or if he has to take it back to the UK to get it done.

He should also check his insurance - most UK policies have a 28 day limit for overseas trips. |

Weegie, if you try to get a certificat of conformity (ridicule but needed for that lovely idiotic French administration) it might take you more than 6 months (my Aston took me 7) my cars are registred in my name in the UK some have an MOT some have a CT nobody will have a problem with that as long as you can show you are in the procedure of registration in France. Insurance companies will accept you and by EU law the CT and MOT are accepted according to my insurance company here in France for that period. I agree with you if you say it is a grey area, but it is not illegal. |

Robert, I agree if you are permanently exporting the vehicle (more than 12 months) but the OP seemed to indicate a temporary situation. If a permanent one then legally he should re-register.

Just out of interest gentlemen "in the know", how does the CT system compare with the MOT in terms of stringency and discretion of the tester ?

It is pretty much the same as the MOT. They do a dynamic suspension test (shuggle* the vehicle on rams) which I am not sure is done for the MOT.

The suspension test on rams sounds interesting - perfect for ancient Citroens ?

Probably not a good description but it tests the shock absorbers etc.

Is this some kind of 'does it compress and come back up test' for the rams or a leakage test?
