Control arm replacement?

Driving the car recently on roundabouts I have had the sensation of the car slightly skidding. Also despite having had alignment done my steering wheel needs turning to the right slightly in order to keep in a straight line. Also I noticed a slight vagueness to the steering also. This morning on full lock whilst parking the front passenger side wheel seemed to skid / move slightly sideways. I should also add that I get a slight shimmy on the steering wheel on certain surfaces at about 40mph or so despite having wheels balanced twice. I'm thinking I need to check bushes etc. So do I jack up car taking all safety precautions etc. and check for play at wheel and do a visual inspection. What's likely to be the culprit Control arm?

Thanks

Also have a quick look at the rears (unless you have done them recently.) My symptoms were similar and it was rear wishbone bushes.

That said, a decent size lever bar should provide you the clues you need

Good luck, hope it's a cheap(ish) one!!

Thumbs Up

What have you had done already Conor?

Done all the front on mine now and it has improved it no end, check:

Lower control arm ball joints - car on ground get someone to rock wheel and look for excess play
Upper control arm ball joints - same as above
Upper control arm inner bushes (big ones) - big pry bar
Lower control arm Inner bush - pry bar
Track rod ends inner and outer - rocking looking for play
Arb drop links (not likely to be the cause but worth checking) - loose

That's about all of the links in the front setup, bar the arb bushes. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Lower arms and upper arm ball joints - lemforder, couldnt find upper arms from lemforder, only Delphi were available at the time, both are original equipment manufacturers, but half price when bought as oem.

When I did the uppers I ordered from lrdirect, britpart (oem ones) and got Delphi, which wasn't too bad, iirc they were about 65 a side, the lower arms were gen from dan, but were lemforder, so if you can find them from ecp etc then worth the saving.

Track rod ends were lemforder (again gen from dan) but again I think ecp does them as oem. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
