play in steering wheel

Hi

On my drive back from picking the (new to me) car up I noticed as I was driving that I had to keep correcting the steering to keep it in a straight line (nothing major but was not able to relax due to the slight wondering.

I had a look under the car i.e. jack up and checked for any loose arms, track rod ends etc and did not see anything loose or flopping about and wheel bearings ok.

With the wheels on the ground you can rock the steering wheel from side to side about 13mm at the most before the wheels want to move, is this be the servotronic valve playing up ?

I did notice it a little on the test drive but stood out more on the 300 mile trip home.

The tyres are getting low and we thought it may be them but only noticed the play is there when the car is parked and engine off.

Sadly my dog will not rock the steering wheel while I have a look under to see if it the coupling onto the rack

Got under it today and sure enough the coupling bolt was a little loose so a quick nip up with the socket and no more play Laughing
