Ipod idea

Hi, now that I have my RR I have a few things I would like to do.

I use my ipod a lot and have it in the cubby box connected to the rear aux socket. In my old D2 I had an alpine head which controlled the ipod and displayed tracks, album art etc. which I really like. I would like to be able to see what's playing but my main bug bear is having to remember to open the lid and press pause every time it turn off Neutral I know it's only a minor thing but it's a nuisance.

I toyed with the idea of getting an iPod nano and having it somewhere discrete but on display so I could see it and pause it more easily. While driving around I was looking around trying to decide where I could put a nano when I thought about the glasses holder and if I could put it in there, or even better my iPod touch, and run the cables round the headlining, down the pillar and across through to the cubby so the connection is the same. Doing this I could see what was playing, have some control and flip it back up to hide it.

What do you more experience guys think? If I can get the extension cables is it a relatively simple job to run them behind the trim?

Thanks in advance.

Jailbreak it - and use the activator to pause on 'no power' - mine has been like this for years Smile Land Rover Addict

I've jailbroken my ipod and installed activator and it will now at least stop playing when I turn the ignition off.

I still want to try and install it into the glasses holder and want to run a 12v socket lead from the front fuse box to plug the usb adaptor into and I will run a jack lead to the rear aux socket.

I think I have it all sussed now and will get a piggyback fuse adaptor and 12v socket extension.

Which is the best fuse to use in the front fuse box? I want a switched live so it's not running all the time. Mines is a MY 2007 if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance.

I've made a start on this now and have done part 1.

I removed the roof console and drilled a small hole through the back of the sunglasses holder to feed the cable through. I then took the cradle off a Macally phone holder and stuck this inside the holder with double sided sticky stuff ( it's not a tape, it's more rubbery)

I ran the audio cable along the headlining, tucked it down the side of the A pillar trim, under the glovebox and along the side of the centre console. I struggled to completely hide it down the side of the seat as I did this without actually removing anything. I also have the extra length coiled up under the rear of the console until I am able to hide it better. Nothing is really visible though.

It was a bit of a tight fit due to the size of the ipod connector but the way it displays fits nicely in the shape of the holder.

I can now open the sunglasses holder to see the ipod when in use and close it to hide it.

Next step is to run a power feed from the fuse box so the ipod will charge and stop playing when I turn the ignition off.

I was going to take some pics but the heavens opened and I didn't have my phone in the car. I did take one while I was testing the fit of the ipod.

I did play with the positioning a bit so it looks a bit better.[/img]
