What range Torque Wrench? Aldi Special Buy T.W Kit

Aldi has a Torque Wrench Set for £13.99. It has a working range of 28 to 210 Nm.

Will it be fine for my DIY tinquering on the L322. I know it's in range for the wheel nuts but will it also do a job on other things such as brakes and suspension, as just 2 examples?

Seems worth a go and if it's rubbish, it hasn't cost much.

Thanks in advance.

Thumbs Up

thats a good price, there was a 'special' on amazon last week for a silverline one with that exact torque range at a cost of £16.99....

...and 210nm is more than enough.. Thumbs Up ... - .- -.

It is a good price, but why not simply buy great quality with total peace of mind?

I refer to Halfords Professional Range. Lifetime guarantee, no quibble replacement, exceptional quality and always worth a decent amount should you ever decide to sell, so it's not really going to cost you much if you think about it from that perspective.

Their 60-300Nm model is a pretty reasonable £85. Their 40-200Nm model at £75.

You can buy dirt cheap Torque Wrenches but how do you know they are accurate with repeatable results?
I 2nd the Halfords ones. They come top on tests for accuracy (Auto Express and Car Mechanics) and are good quality. I have a couple. They maybe expensive but they can be picked up cheaper in the sales or find someone with or get a Halfords Trade card, that £75-£90 turns into about half price (last one I bought was £38, shelf price £75 I think).

Thanks very much for the replies all.

This Auto XS Torque Wrench Set from Aldi comes with a 3 year guarantee.

I misread the price and it was in fact £15.99 for the following:
Torque wrench 12.7mm (1/2") with quick release;
Working range: 28 - 210Nm;
Extension bar 12.7mm (1/2") (125mm);
3 x 6 sided impact sockets 12.7mm (1/2") (17-19-21mm)

I actually bought the set before being able to read your replies.

Regarding this Torque Wrench Set, a quick internet trawl found this Australian Internet site where many DIY users posted their thoughts and for £15.99 on occasional use, if it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me for now.

I've removed the set from the box and it really does feel very good quality. The feel of the torque wrench is weighty and to the touch appears of no lesser quality than my Halfords professional range breaker bar. Until it lets me down, I'm very happy with this purchase which seems like excellent value with a 3 year guarantee from a reputable company Thumbs Up

Looks good. Thumbs Up

For the record and without wishing to sound hypocritical, but I have a Draper torque wrench. I bought that in my early Land Rover owning days around 10 years ago (before I discovered how good Halfords' tool range is) and it's been fine for the little use it gets. Si. <This is my name.

Brilliant that, cheers Stan. Very reassuring.

The Aldi manager told me they are just in stock today.

@Si, before reading your last post I was just thinking I bet you it'll stand the DIY test of time (like your Draper tools) and that in years to come when I'm no longer around, one of my offspring will find this torque wrench in the garage and have it for them self thinking it was some hugely expensive tool to buy "years ago". Laughing

Thumbs Up

Yep, probably. And it'll only have been used half a dozen times. Wink Si. <This is my name.

So many times Shocked

... In keeping with the anticipated future "bet that was expensive back then" illusion, I've just removed the Aldi stickers!

A bit like unboxing their Jaffa cakes before putting them in the kids cupboard!!!

Ryan, I have had a torque wrench from lidl/aldi for a few years now and it seems to do the job well enough for me. Pretty much only use it for torquing up wheel nuts in any case.....

Not sure on the accuracy but the wheels havent fallen off Rolling Eyes There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Good to hear Mark Laughing

I'll use it for more than the wheels. Sounds like a great vfm bit of kit. Enough research on this thread now to justify having DIY confidence in it Thumbs Up

Never used a torque wrench on my FFRR, or other car for last 25 years (it is lost in my father's barn somewhere)

Just tighten up as tight as it was when it came off.

Not had to do a cylinder head in all that time though....

Torque wrenches don't have to be exactly perfect when measuring torque, unless you're a numpty.

Their main purpose is to make sure every nut and bolt is tightened all equally to the same torque.. i.e. cylinder head bolts, as long as they are all equal and near enough to the manufacturers specs will do you.

Even using one of those dial arm torque wrenches does the job of equal measurement.
