Another Problem!

Came home tonight and parked up as normal. Went out to car about 30mins later, inside rear of cabin I could smell anticeptic/hot electrics smell. went back indoors. Now alarm keeps sounding every 20min and all I get on turning the key is a click. Help any ideas please before I start shelling out loads.

Many Thanks

So sounds electrical. Check fuses? Check for faults with IIDTool etc. Check main battery connections. Disconnecting battery won't stop the alarm as on separate supply! Check bonnet alarm button OK. Check all doors and windows shut properly. Try locking without interior protection (wifes Audi gets upset if you leave luggage and coats inside, or it spots a beetle/moth on the move). .

Thanks Joe

Alarm has now stopped going off. All battery connections O.K. everything electrical works as it should. Its just this electrical smell now and just a click on turning the key. I am thinking starter motor but that has been working fine. My Motto: If you are going to have one, have a BIG one!

Where does the smell of burning most strongest ?,
Have a look at the cables round the starter motor would be a start too and do a bench test on that to elimnate it from faulty.
I've not done a FF starter but done too many on the rover V8's as the solenoid sticks when been off road in water or even just warn out due to age.

Normaly burning wires means a cable or part of the loom has been chafed through, done any work on the FF lately?

Just a quick thought have you checked all fuses to see if any have been deformed by heat, fuses dont have to pop!....that will narrow things down aswell . If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

The smell was strongest in the back seat area. Just been out, now nothing is working. not even the key fob. The car is now completely dead, but it wasn't so the battery must have drained, so I am thinking something has shorted out.

I did change the FSR this week. My Motto: If you are going to have one, have a BIG one!

Yes that what I was thinking, the smell is definitely in the back of the car. Is the main cable easy to inspect/find? My Motto: If you are going to have one, have a BIG one!

Disconnect both +be battery and rear end terminal and then test for continuity between the cable and body, should be absolutely none at all! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Its deffo electrical as now nothing is working, but it was 6 hours ago. The car is still under dealer warranty, so I will be giving them a call in the morning. My Motto: If you are going to have one, have a BIG one!

Speaking to Bournemouth LR and describing the smell (TCP) they suspect alternator failure. Car is being collected and delivered to them on Monday. My Motto: If you are going to have one, have a BIG one!

Just worried if I mention it, it may void the warranty. My Motto: If you are going to have one, have a BIG one!
