Nissan GT-R opinions

What do you guys (and gals) think of the Nissan GT-R as a second car / weekend car / plaything. Worth the hype and money or overrated ??

Not that I have the money to spend on one yet but it is one of those cars I'd like to own for a few years at some point. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

I had this one in my drive for a week...

A good friend of mine hired it for 10 days at a cost of around £2.5k.... He's one of those rich oil workers based in Singapore Whistle
We kicked the pants off it and I had a ball. It is silly fast and the grip is phenomenal. It is such a technical car. There are g-meters ets built into the info system.... I was with a chap at a charity drive at the weekend and his gtr is pumping out 640bhp and he wants more!
Anyway, would I have one? No. It tracks all over the place with the slightest undulation or bump on the road. The suspension even on soft is too hard for normal road use. Tyres are about £500 a corner. It is utterly soulless inside. It is plasticky and very Japanese.
But again... That's just my opinion. My friend loved it. The chap at the weekend loved his. You might love it....
Have you driven one?

Haven't ever been in one, seen them plenty around here (one is just across the street). Would love to take it out for a few days as well. Maybe get a few jobs going and I can go and splurge it on renting one for a while Smile. Friend of mine came close to buying one. He test drove one and said it was just like a play station. He didn't buy one in the end, but that was more to do with a split with an ex and a house purchase. He would still like one, and if he got one I'd hope he'd lend it to me! Very Happy

I'd quite like one too, think they're great cars, but I'd prefer a more GT car as I already have an out and out sports car (my VX, which is great fun), so I'm more XKR than GTR.

By the way, they're a budget super car in terms of purchase price, but not running costs. They eat tyres, brakes and fuel!

Watching superfactories on the GT-R prompted the question. It also made me realize, how much work goes into drivetrain and engine, just imagine that car with 4 in-hub motors and plenty battery capacity (in hub motors can produce around 650 bhp combined according to Protean). MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

He's in Korea now actually. He only comes home 1 or 2 times a year, but when he does he normally hires something extreme.
It would be a fantastic track car. Previously..

They are the opposite of the trotted-out Playstation jibes, certainly more interactive than something like a 997 Turbo. Saying that the standard exhaust is a bit muted and they perhaps don't feel so special just running around.

Friend of mine bought one when they first came out - absolutely awesome car. Immense power!! He sold it once the warranty ran out. Tyres are expensive and I imagine service costs weren't cheap but I bet cheaper to run than a Ferrari. A lot of car for around 35k - i've promised myself one for my 40th birthday - 4 years to go and need to make some money lol

Mental fast, cheap for what you get and not too bad to look at outside. Get inside though and it's still a crappy Datsun. Ride quality of a penny-farthing and has the image of a lager lout motor. A bloke at work has one and I always think it's on the same image level as a 15 year old Impreza.

Wouldn't be my choice.

Google cost of paint finishes Eugene as they painted some of the grey ones in the most ridiculously costly paint. Only available from Nissan at around £750 a litre from memory... Shocked

Ultimate Silver is the expensive paint. Ignore the issues some have about the badge, it's an awesome car.

I had the pleasure of one for an evening for my son's prom in July. Having driven a couple of big V8's and one or two minor league "supercars" I can say that this thing is epic. It's not the speed, it's how it gets you there....and the noise....

If I ever had £40k for a 'second car' this would be it.... Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........
