Refraining from stating the obvious, so I'll state another 'obvious' reply of why not change the battery first and see what happens?

I already have the new replacement in the garage, just waiting for a clear few hours to do it, like to take my time on these things and do a proper job, not rushed. Will be using the Wiki. Discovery 4 HSE

and the new battery is sitting at 12.7 V cold with no charge, so I know mine is below par, and you're right, I wasn't going to leave it till the winter cold snaps to see what happens Discovery 4 HSE

Battery first thing to change, you know FF's like them, I would charge up your spare new battery before fitting though to give it a full charge
