There are a few posts here about key reprogramming but they seem to be aimed at the BMW cars so I thought I'd ask about the newer ones.
Is it possible to but a second hand key for a 2010 car and get it re-programmed?

I bought one of these and the main stealer is saying you can't do it. My local indi said he would have a go but it might screw up the other key so I've not sone at either.....

I looked at that Video Stan and thought it was easy but both my nearest Indi. and Main Stealer are saying that the spare keys come pre-programmed with Vin # information that cannot be changed.
My nearest Indi. even went onto say that he was prepared to have a go but there was a risk that it might screw up the existing key leaving the vehicle immobilised totally so I didn't let him try. Regards

I doubt that a random key on the net will work. The transponder for the immobilizer used to be VIN based and is preprogrammed by the key OEM supplier AFAIK. Getting the key to operate the doors open and close will also be the same, a button pushing/ignition key sequence.

"Telling the car" which keys are active requires a T4 or Faultmate or IID.

Now above is all based on MY2006 as I had to deal with this on the 2006 SC. But to be honest I expect little change on the later models.

You could ask the Gap-diagnostics guys, they are likely to have more info on this. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!
