Last week in August I'm driving over to the Czech Republic and taking the Range Rover for the first time since we have got it. Car has done 73,000 miles and has an irritating squeak from nearside suspension and needs two new front tyres. Will stick some Michelins on to match the rears and give it a good check over.

It is a lovely car to drive. The Disco was awesome on long journeys but the extra space inside this will make things a lot nicer for all of us. Used to get 28mpg in the Disco 3 on this journey and am expecting to get around 22mpg on average in this. I hope

Hope they do. Averaging 17.2mpg at present with my wife driving and that is purely round town. A nice smooth long journey should push that figure up.

The night I bought mine we travelled one from Newcastle in it with the cruise set at 70mph, it was wearing a set of General Grabbers and we averaged 20.5mpg with the air con on full blast most of the way.

I'd check the coolant expansion tank level and ensure the system is leak free and stable; and I'd take a couple of litres of approved 50/50 Longlife Organic Acid Technology (OAT) coolant as well as a large Phillips screwdriver and some PTFE tape for the bleed screw, just in case there is any form of coolant loss/ discharge during the trip.

Thanks for the heads up. Haven't had any coolant issues since we have had the car for the last 7 years or so so fingers crossed it should be ok coolant wise.

Squeeky suspension is usually the front balljoints gone dry... Plenty to read on here about it |

I did a 1200 mile trip to Le Mans a while back and it took 3 tanks of fuel. Was getting a comfortable 400 miles a tank at 70~ UK and 85~ France speeds. That's with 5 x14-16 stone blokes in the car and expedition fridge and camping gear and a towbar box.

Seeing as it seems topical with petrol and diesel engines, if not already done you could consider a preventative gearbox fail, gearbox oil and filter change.
