Air con not working, but has pressure

I had the condenser changed in my 2002 RR some time ago as it was leaking. I then had it re-gassed but it still isn't working. My IID tool is showing a pressure of around 10 when the air-con is not turned on, and just over 11 with it enabled. There are some noises coming from inside the car which sound like something is moving but no cold air. I suspect that it is problem on the compressor but before I go down the route of having it replaced I thought I would canvas opinion from the educated masses.

Normally if the pressure increases that means the compressor is working. However the increase in pressure is a bit low for my liking so you may be right. Have you tried a proper A/C specialist that knows how to fault find A/C units ??

How is the interior fan doing normally is it blowing enough air anyway ??

Is there a puddle of water forming underneath the car when the A/C is running for a few minutes ? If so, that would indicate it is actually cooling but the cold air is not reaching the interior and that could be fan related (FSR replaced already ??) or flap motors.

Hope this helps a bit, good luck Smile MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

The fan is running normally and blowing air in to the cabin. It was the lack of serious pressure rise which makes me think it is the compressor, almost as if the compressor failed when it ran of gas previously. None of the normal water you would associate with a fully working system.
I haven't taken it anywhere yet, there is a RR specialist near me so I might well drop it off there. I will price up a replacement compressor so that I know what I'm letting myself in for.

I will check the belt, but there are no noises from it, I'll give my local specialist a call and see what they suggest. I'll report back.

It might also be worth checking the compressor clutch. This can slip and lead to minimal gas movement even though all looks well from the front. I had this years back on a Vauxhall Senator and it took a wee while to diagnose.

Basically you need to watch the clutch engage and then ensure that both the pulley and the shaft are turning at the same speed.

Thanks, I will check that. I have also spoken with my local specialist who suspects the compressor. His suggestion is to get a secondhand one and fit that. A couple of hours later and all should be good. He can recover and re-use the gas / oil. Off to eBay for me then....
