Solar Chargers

Hi Guys,
I belive several members use these solar panels to maintain batteries if the vehicle has to stand for some time and connect using one of the cig lighter sockets.Would it be safe to use the OBD2 diagnostic
port for purpose.
Thanks any info gratefully received

No you can't use the diagnostic port.
If you don't /can't use an accessory socket or cigarette socket it would be easy enough to wire a solar charger into the passenger side fuseboard or rear fuseboard thro an on/off switch or ignition controlled relay.

Interesting.....
The lighter sockets are fused and go straight to the battery. I am not sure if the obd port is fused but it probably goes through an ecu of sorts.... Previously..

I would go aux (lighter) socket in the boot or go direct to the battery. The whole area of OBD is complex and best avoided if you can unless there is a specific reason you need to take that route?

I have a Maplin solar charger and whilst it's ok for keeping a perfect battery topped up that's about it, the power output is tiny. 2006 4.2 SC

What sort of Solar Chargers are a good buy? Are they all Made in China or is there anything manufactured in UK or Germany that's being offered in the market? Zambezi Silver Range Rover (2010 Autobiography Facelift)

Just to add, as SKOT said you'll have to use the boot socket as this remains "live", the ones in the front are isolated when the ignition is turned off in my experience so it won't charge

cheers ...Always time for a brew !!
