AA or RAC guys? any ideas? cost? experiences etc?

Either, but it's quite often cheaper to get breakdown cover with your insurance as they haggle a big discounts due to a large number of customers.

I had 3 users on my AA and the renewal was very expensive, so got my helper in the office to ring RAC and they offered it to us for half price, she rung the AA back and they beat that by 20%.

Play one off against the other and see who has the best price and go with that one...

I have had no probs with AA, usually very quick, especially with youngsters/babies on board.

I bank with Barclays and they provide the top level of RAC cover for you and your partner if you have a joint acc. This is "Free" but I pay for the account. Worth it for the other "Free" stuff though, gadget insurance for laptops, cameras etc. Mobile phone insurance and a realy usefull Legal service.

I was always with the AA and never had any problems. Went with RAC last year as I got a discount through a friend. Have to say, I've used them twice now and haven't been impressed. The first time was 5pm on a Friday. Car wouldn't start at the station. They said they'd be with me at about 7pm! I managed to jump start it in the end and cancelled the callout.

The 2nd time- I was riding home on my bike when I lost power on the motorway. Phoned them again and they said they'd be there within the hour. The patrolman called me and he said he'd see what he could do, but if it needed taking home, he'd have to call out another vehicle. This, after I'd told the controller it was a bike and for them to send a specialist vehicle to take it home! 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

that's rubbish about having to get a specialist vehicle...my sons bike failed to start and the company i referred to earlier sent out a normal car transporter and lashed my sons bike on the back... ... - .- -.

They rarely send a car transporter, it’s often a van with a tail lift thing. Unsuitable for a bike and unsuitable for a Range Rover. And yes, although you tell them you have a 4wd and you will need a flat bed, they still send a van because they think they can fix your blown diff at the side of the road…. 

Since 1996 when I purchased my first Disco I have been with Land Rover Assist. On the few ocassions I have had to call them out over the years they have been first rate. Recently I managed to shred the front nearside tyre and put a deep slash (which fortunately didn't puncture the tyre but so so deep I wasn't keen to drive on it) in the nearside rear on a large pothole hit at 60mph - called LRA and was told that the AA would come and deal with my problem. Fortunately the techie that arrived was formerly the local LRA man!
One thing the AA has done though is to check it's database of former members and since they have been tied up with LRA I have had all sorts of unsolicited mail from them - they even tried to access my bank account to re-start a direct debit that had been cancelled years ago! They wrote and told me that they had not received my annual subscription and that the bank details I had supplied were incorrect! Why would I want AA cover when I have free LRA. Even though my 90 is nearly 15 years old it had LRA cover until last year although (this will probably be the kiss of death now!) it has never missed a beat so I cancelled it as I was spending £300 a year for what basically amounted to an extra insurance............................ 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes
