Buying a TDV8 what to look out for????

Not for me, unfortunately, my mate is after a 2007/8/9 TDV8, he's found one that's not far from me and I'll end up having a look for him...

I know the basics, just need any specific things to check on the TDV8...

Cheers chaps Pete

Mileage, but full history is important, turbos are an issue (from experience) other than that just the usual things Thumbs Up

I've just got rid of one that was purchased from a main dealer. It was checked and tripled checked but if you check my topic below you'll see that even with checks things can be wrong. I'd say set aside 3-5k a year for repairs or unexpected failures. I worked out to run mine fuel service finance etc it cost me around 1k a month. They're built in the uk so they're bound to be shall be say feature ridden!

However that said some folk on here have had their frame new and have had no problems at all Thumbs Up

Great vehicles, I'd never recommend anyone stay away from them they are unbeatable.

£5k/ year to maintain one of these is a ridiculous amount of money and no matter how good a car, if you're in that territory with your own cash then either money is genuinely no object or you need to jump ship.

Thumbs Up

£855 selected warranty from the off.
Service say about 350-400 or more if main dealer
Tax £500
That's £1755 without even driving it . . .
Fuel every 2weeks for me so £225 a month
Quickly adds up.

It was my everyday car. Can't see the point owning one and keeping it for Sunday best!

Hi, bought my first FF in Feb 2014, 56 reg, some issues I found with mine after I had paid, were heated windscreen partially works (passenger side only), turbo hose split, wheel nuts were swollen, recent find of brake pipe corrosion, also if getting an 07 reg worth checking the age of the spare tyre, mine was brand new and never used but was aged 8 years which is unsafe to use so that needed changing, otherwise just the general checks like brake discs and pads, bodywork, parking sensors front and rear, wipers front, rear and washing function, especially the rear which I had to sort as gets blocked easily. check eletrics on seat, stearing wheel, mirrow folds, also heated seats and steering wheel. I would also try to get an air con service as part of the deal as I am unable to find when mine was last done, even though it is working fine. So far I have spent just over a £1000 on repairs alone in 6 months, not including 2 tyre relacements so have been a bit pricey but I love driving it, Hope this helps your friend.

I have had mine since November last year and done just over 17k miles and spent 2k in repairs being heated front seat fan replacement my choice as I like everything to work it was broken when bought replaced 2 tyres due to cuts picked up during floods service also all done at main dealer and last but not least new gearbox installed at cost of 54 quid under warranty mind you I did buy the LR select warranty for circa 900 quid
In my opinion not a lot for 17k miles

Since having mine from January the first fault I had was a dodgy lift pump in the tank which caused it to die doing 60mph on the Hogs Back. That was a long wait...

Second not specific to TDV8 as it could happen to any car was one of the rear calipers sticking causing the disc to overheat and warp, all sorted under third party warranty.

Other than routine servicing and consumables (tyres, pads, oil etc.), changing the auto box fluid and the air com condenser, mine has been absolutely fine over the 2 years/30k miles I've owned it Thumbs Up

And everything works, even the TPMS (well, most of the time) 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

I know the conditions in Australia are different to the UK, but some of your yearly expenses seem huge.

I bought my 3.6l 07 about 18 months ago with 63 000km (39 000 miles). It now has 80 000km (50 000 miles).
In that time I have changed the engine oil and filter twice (about to do it again), transmission oil and filter once, front and rear pads and discs and upper intercooler hoses. Total cost (doing the worn myself) would be under $2000 AUD.

It hasn't broken down or faulted in any way (touch wood). Fuel use is quite reasonable too.
