Hi guys,

I have a 2003 TD6 which needs a new gearbox. After reading most of the threads on new, reconditioned and specially modified replacement for the GM box I am wondering if I could use a completely different gearbox?

for example from an x5 with the same engine and transfer box?

I just don't see the point in buying another rubbish, sluggish and lazy gearbox with only 5 gears.

The E53 and early L322 are very closely related and use the same engine/transmissions combinations i.e. 4.4l uses the ZF 5HP24 and the 3.0l uses the GM 5L40-E. The back ends of the transmissions are slightly different as the X5 uses the NV125 (single-speed) transfer box and the Range Rover the NV225 (two-speed).
