Land Rover Main Dealer Discounts

Hi Guys,

Just wondering what (if any) discount you have got on Purchasing a Range Rover Approved Vehicle from land Rover, off there forecourt price.

I know that there are allot of factors involved, but i'm just curious.

Any dealers more acceptable to offers than others.

I did make an offer at the weekend and was politely told to sod off.

Well, it was 3.5K over me budget.

Cheers

I experienced pretty much the same discount offer as you from my local stealer. May be a pattern starting to form here... Whistle

The dealer will probably have about £3k to £4k profit on the windscreen price for LR approved used vehicles depending on the age of the car.
Out of this they have to pay for the :
LR Approved used 12 month warranty £1000
6 months road tax £220
VAT on profit £500
Remedial work/service etc dependant on condition £unknown

Potentially they could lose £1720.00+ of their profit to get it on the road, leaving about £1300 to £2300 of clear profit. Depending on how desperate they are to sell the vehicle will determine whether they over allow say £500-£1000 on your trade in or give you discount.

These are approximate figures based on loads of chats over the years to salesmen and piecing the jigsaw together.
The most I have been offered on a TDV8 recently was £1000 off/trade inover allowance, that was in May and they still had the car last time I checked (Morrisons Stirling silver TDV8 £34995)

Hope this helps!

Thanks Specman for the info, no wonder they told me to sod off Laughing

I will give James a call or e-mail, you never know when someone will P/EX.

Dan, your not after a 07 TDV8 in grey with Privacy are you... I really like that colour with Privacy. very nice.

Oh well, I'll keep on looking...

I was in London on Sunday and done a little divert to Saxton... I wasn't impressed at all (I know that there turnover is probably high and they have stocking loans etc), but what a state some of the vehicles were in. Shocked

Like in another post, some door handles were missing and they didn't seem loved at all...

The RRS were in better shape, but we won't go there...

Cheers

Best I could manage was £1k off a few weeks ago on my car, but stangely the car was advertised on the net on the LR website at £2k less than the 'sticker' price on the car. So in ''theory'' I got £3k off, but the car had been for sale with them a couple of months by the time I was looking.

Hardest part was trying to find the right vehicle at all.

Odd things can happen with Stratstone where I got my car from.
I think they decide once it has been sitting for 3 months thats it and they drop the price.
I first saw it late April at £33454 when I first starting looking, no movement offered on the price at all "internet pricing Alex said. I sold my Disco2 about a month later very quickly and at the same time Stratstone had independently dropped the car by £2500, which was naturally snapped up over the phone as I had driven it before.
I reckon it wasn't sold quicker because it was Tonga Green with ebony black, when everyone wants Tonga Green with ivory leather. Having had black interiors before they are the best for hiding dirt, after two weeks holidays it still looked clean and only took a quick wash and hoover to get it back ship shape, I wonder how long ivory leather would have taken me.......!

A TDV8 would be nice, but afraid my finances wouldn't stretch to it. Maybe a little further down the line eh! Thumbs Up

Will do, does he know you by your screen name delamo...

Yes he is very helpful, much much better than a dealer in Thames Ditton, that couldn't really be bothered...

When I bought mine, it was up for £46K and had been on forecourt for about 6weeks , I offered £41k + my 1.4L Fiesta and it was accepted (tried to get them down to £40 but they couldn't go that far). Hence, I got £2k off the sticker price and part-ex'd one of my other cars into the bargain. I always go for the cash discount deal first and once I have that price, I then introduce the idea of a part exchange into the equation. Most dealers are willing to haggle to a point and I've never ever not got a discount, be it new or second hand. Steve

Thanks Angel........ and you're not a bad bloke either!!! Wink

With regard to margins, there is no hard and fast rule as to what a dealer can 'knock off'. It's a fairly competitive market at the moment, therefore dealers can't afford to be too greedy with the margins that are put across the cars as they are likely to price themselves out of the market as far as the internet is concerned.

In addition, if the vehicle has been taken in part-exchange then it may well be that they had to give the previous owver strong money for it and are looking for a quick small profit to move the car on. On the flip side, sometimes a dealer is able to underwrite a vehicle in the trade (say from a BMW dealer) and buy it cheaply, have a decent margin and therefore afford to give the next buyer a good chunk off.

It really depends on the specific vehicle. What I would say is..... if a buyer gives commitment that they are in the dealership to buy the car (not just discuss figures) then the dealer will not let you go until they are down to their very lowest figure. Always ask to speak to the Manager as generally the Sales Executive will not have the authority required to do a deal.

Used cars are moving so quickly at the moment that you really need to be able to say "here is my card number for a deposit" if you want to get the best out of the dealer. It is also sometimes a case of where the dealer is against his budget and how the months orders are progressing. If he is having a good month then he may bot be so keen, whereas if he's missed a few deals then he may just do a deal out of principle!

I appreciate that this doesn't really answer the question, however there isn't really an exact answer to give. What I will say is that it's generally a case of £100's as opposed to £1000's and that you should not be confused by the smoke and mirrors of the PX valuation...... look at the cost to change only.

James Thumbs Up
